The Malawi Police Service has quietly released six Mexican nationals who were arrested on Saturday at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe on suspicion of being drug lords in transit to Mozambique.
The individuals identified as Panfilo Hernandez (27), Adrian Angulo (30), Armando Hernandez (32), Mario Picas (32), Luiz Armando Ramirez (44), and Cristhian Jovvany Hernandez (30) were initially suspected of planning to establish laboratories for dangerous drugs in Mozambique.
However, according to sources familiar with the case, the six were released on Thursday morning after investigations revealed no criminal wrongdoing. Police reportedly found no drugs in their possession and no concrete evidence linking them to drug trafficking or illegal drug operations.
Despite the gravity of the initial allegations, the suspects were not charged or taken to court, and have since been allowed to proceed with their travel plans.
