Human remains believed to belong to missing South African journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner, Zodwa Precious Mdhluli, have been discovered in a remote bush area of Limpopo Province, more than two months after the couple was last seen.

The remains, found in an advanced state of decomposition, have not yet been officially confirmed through DNA testing. However, forensic teams and media sources say preliminary identification points to Ndlovu and Mdhluli.

Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the case. Authorities have reportedly recovered several stolen items, including furniture, appliances, and vehicle parts linked to the missing couple.

Ndlovu, founder of the Pretoria-based Capital Live radio station, and Mdhluli were last seen on 18 February 2025. Their disappearance sparked widespread concern within the journalism and civil society communities.

“I am terribly sad. We held out hope… Our deepest condolences go out to the families,” said Elijah Mhlanga, chairperson of the African Media and Communicators Forum.

The discovery underscores South Africa’s ongoing struggle with violent crime. The country recorded over 26,000 murders in 2024, translating to an average of 72 killings per day.

Authorities say investigations are continuing, with the suspects expected to appear in court soon.
