MEC to Distribute Preliminary Voters Register to Political Parties

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced it will distribute copies of the preliminary voters register to all 23 registered political parties on Monday 12 May 2025.

MEC spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa says the list has the names of all people who have registered to vote. The list will be used during the voter inspection and verification exercise from 13th to 31st May.

He says the political parties should check the list carefully and report to MEC if they find any problems.

A political expert, George Chaima, says this is a good step because it shows that MEC wants to be open and fair. He says it may help reduce complaints from opposition parties about the voters list.
