Man arrested for having sexual intercourse with 12-year-old stepdaughter in Mzuzu

Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 33-year-old man, Limbani Nyirenda, for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
The incident happened on June 18, 2026 at around 4:00 hours in Botanic area in the city
According to information, the mother of the victim is married to Nyirenda and they stay together with the victim.
On June 18, 2026, the mother of the victim went to chat with a neighbor, leaving the two in the house.
The suspect then sent the victim to collect a Bluetooth speaker from a neighbor. When she came back to give it to him, the suspect dragged her into his room and forced himself on her.
Her mother became suspicious and asked her daughter what happened. The girl told her mother what the suspect had done.
When the mother asked her husband about the incident, he admitted he had sexual intercourse with her.
She reported the matter at Zolozolo Police Unit and the victim was offered a referral letter to Mzuzu Central Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Medical results confirmed that sexual intercourse occurred.
The suspect will appear in court soon to answer a charge of sexual intercourse with a female child.
Nyirenda hails from Chiponda Village, Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba District.
