A public dispute between musician Tay Grin and Ramy Waheed, the boss of Amaryllis Hotel, has sparked a heated debate on social media over customer feedback and tourism standards.

The controversy began after Tay Grin described Sigelege Beach Resort as “boring” in a Facebook post, prompting mixed reactions from the public.

Waheed, who heads Amaryllis Hotel Group and also serves in several tourism leadership roles, publicly challenged the musician’s remarks, accusing him of unfairly damaging the image of a local tourism destination.

However, the response triggered a backlash online, with many social media users arguing that customers have a right to publicly share their experiences and opinions about services they receive.

The debate intensified further after Waheed reportedly deleted his original Facebook post, while Tay Grin doubled down on his message by calling for improved service delivery in the hospitality sector.

“Hospitality, not hostility. If we want Malawi’s tourism industry to thrive, we must demand better service, greater professionalism, and respect for every guest. No to bad service. Yes to WORLD CLASS hospitality,” Tay Grin wrote.

The exchange has divided opinion, with some defending Waheed’s efforts to protect Malawi’s tourism image, while others insist that criticism and honest feedback are necessary if businesses are to improve and compete internationally.

The discussion has since grown beyond the two personalities, raising wider questions about customer rights, service standards and how Malawi’s tourism industry should respond to public criticism.
