The Umodzi Party has said it doesn’t  know anything about an agreement that would make UTM the leader of the Tonse Alliance in the upcoming 2025 elections.

This comes after UTM senior member Patricia Kaliati, was speaking at a party meeting yesterday, asked all 8 Tonse Alliance parties to support UTM in this year’s election.

However, Thomas Kaumba, a leader from the Umodzi Party which is also part of the Tonse Alliance dismissed Kaliati’s remarks. He said what she claimed is not true and cannot happen.

Kaumba explained that the main goal of the Tonse Alliance in 2020 was only to remove the DPP from power, not to give leadership to any specific party afterward.

He also criticized UTM for saying that the MCP  government has failed the people of Malawi. Kaumba defended the MCP, saying they have solved problems like electricity blackouts among other things.
