Tobacco Commission Seizes Over 7,000kg of Illegal Tobacco

The tobacco commission has seized over 7000 kilograms of illegally traded tobacco during this year’s tobacco season.

The tobacco commission in collaboration with Malawi Police Service has managed to seize 5400 kilograms of tobacco  in Lilongwe, 1400 in Mzuzu and another 1000 kilograms were seized in Karonga.

The commissioners spokesperson Terephorus Chigwenembe, said the patrols were meant to stop people from selling or smuggling tobacco without permission.

He also said that according to the Tobacco industry Act of 2024, its against the law to buy or export tobacco without a license from the tobacco commission.
