One of Malawi’s well-known gospel artists, Peter Sambo who re-branded to ‘Meta4’, has openly stated that he left gospel music because it has transformed from a ministry into a business-driven industry.
Speaking during a Facebook Live session yesterday, Meta4 admitted that he stopped singing gospel music because he did not want to live a fake life.
“In the past, gospel artists used to sing to save souls. But ever since monetization entered the game, everything changed. Now it’s about competition and making money. It’s no longer a ministry, it’s an industry,” he said.
However, fellow gospel singer Eliza Mponya made a post on her Facebook page. She wrote, “Just because you have sinned doesn’t mean everyone is sinning. There are still people worshipping God in truth.”
She added, “That’s why when God destroyed the world during Noah’s time, He spared Noah and his family because even though the world had sinned, Noah still feared God.”
Her post, have led many netizens to believe she was directly responding to Meta4’s statements.
In conclusion, Eliza emphasized, “God still has His own people.”
