The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has suspended operations at two fuel stations—ENGEN at Mvera in Dowa and Mount Meru at Chinkhoma in Kasungu—after uncovering illegal fuel sales.

According to MERA’s Media and Public Relations Officer, Chembezi Mhone, the decision follows investigations which revealed that the two stations were selling fuel in jerricans, a practice strictly prohibited under Malawi’s fuel regulations.

Mhone emphasized that the stations breached national fuel laws, prompting the regulator to take immediate action.

She further stated that the affected stations may resume operations once they comply fully with the regulatory requirements set by MERA.
