The long-delayed trial of Dutch national Wim Akster is set to begin this afternoon in Blantyre, marking a potential turning point in a case that has lingered since 2020.

Akster stands accused of sexually abusing six boys who had approached the Timotheos Foundation seeking education bursaries.

Chief Resident Magistrate Paul Chiotcha is presiding over the case, with the state expected to present three witnesses.

The defense recently requested an adjournment to next week due to scheduling conflicts, but state prosecutor Victor Jere opposed the move.

The court’s decision to proceed highlights growing urgency to resolve the matter after repeated postponements.
