Concern Citizens Warns MEC Against Using Smartmatic Machines in Upcoming Elections

A group Malawians calling themselves concerned citizens have raised their concerns against the decision  to use of Smartmatic machines in the nation’s upcoming fourth elections on 16 September by Malawi Electro Commission.

This was said during press briefing which was held in Blantyre in order to share their fears about the machine. They said this machine is likely to cause a lot of problems like it happened in other countries including causing voting confusion and repeated names on voters list.

The group have also warned that if MEC goes ahead with using the machine they will organize peaceful demonstration across the country and they also want independent observant to check the voters registration system to confirm if its accurate and fair.

One of the members of this group, Steve Chimwaza said the group wants MEC to change the decision to use the machine, he said if MEC stops using the Smartmatic machine Malawians will have more trust in the electoral process

Some of those concerned citizens include Billy Banda, Steve Chimwaza, Edward Kambanje, Mirium Mzembe, Ida Mazimba and Clif Chinyama
