Police in Malawi’s Central-west Region have recovered a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser worth approximately K500 million, which was reportedly stolen last month in Zimbabwe by a group of six foreign nationals.

Central Region Police spokesperson Foster Benjamin, has confirmed the development  and said two foreign nationals have been arrested after the vehicle was found in Area 47, Lilongwe.

The two have been identified the as Tendai Mtunguwazi from Zimbabwe aged and 28-year-old Kabelo Khotlele from South Africa .

Benjamin said police are currently hunting for four more suspects, including two South African women believed to be involved in the case. One of the women, identified as Jolene Margaret, allegedly rented the vehicle from Afro Trails Car Hire in Zimbabwe for a period of six days but failed to return it after the agreed time.

“When the owners began tracking the vehicle, they discovered through GPS systems that it was in Malawi and immediately alerted the police, leading to the arrests of Tendai and Kabelo,” Benjamin said.

Investigations are ongoing as law enforcement authorities in Malawi work with their regional counterparts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
