Controversy continues to surround the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) decision to declare Damson Chelewani as the winner of the aborted Mulanje Central primary elections.

Rhoda Gadama Misomali, one of the contestants, has formally petitioned the party to review the outcome. In her letter dated May 21, 2025, she accuses the party of making an arbitrary and irregular decision.

Gadama argues that the process lacked transparency and did not follow the DPP’s own election guidelines. She insists the party must explain how Chelewani was declared the winner in a poll that was never concluded.

The petition calls for the nullification of the decision and a fresh primary election within a reasonable timeframe. Gadama claims the party’s Grievances Hearing Committee failed in its duty to ensure fairness.

The letter has been addressed to DPP Director of Elections Jean Mathanga, with copies sent to key party officials.

Party leadership is yet to comment on the growing internal dispute.
