Moses Walota, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Mwanza Central under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), is challenging the party’s decision to rerun the primary elections.

Walota had initially secured victory over Trizar Masauli with 156 votes against 69 in the April 22 primaries. Despite the margin, Masauli lodged a complaint citing electoral irregularities, prompting a review.

Walota insists the election was fair and followed all proper procedures, including voter register verification, which all candidates had agreed to.

In his letter to the party’s secretary-general, Walota emphasized that both candidates were heard, yet the committee opted for a rerun.

He said the decision to rerun was only communicated to him via a phone call without a formal explanation.

In an interview, Walota rejected the rerun directive, urging party leadership to officially declare him the legitimate winner.

He views the decision as unfair and potentially influenced by internal bias.

This development adds to growing tensions within the DPP, where several primary contests have been marred by disputes and allegations of favoritism.
