Tottenham Hotspur ended their 17-year trophy drought with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday night in Bilbao, Spain.

It marked their first cup win since 2008 and their first European title since 1984. The winning goal came in the 42nd minute when Brennan Johnson tapped in a deflected cross from Pape Sarr.

Manchester United struggled to respond, despite dominating possession in the second half. Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven made a heroic goal-line clearance in the 62nd minute to deny Rasmus Højlund a sure equalizer.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made key saves late on to preserve Spurs’ narrow lead. The final whistle sparked emotional celebrations among players and fans at Estadio de San Mamés.

Tottenham’s win also secured a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Forward Brennan Johnson said the victory meant everything after years of criticism and near-misses.
