Vendors in Mzuzu are holding demonstrations today to force the government to stop foreign nations from running retail shops. They insist that foreigners should only be allowed to do wholesale business.
The protest started at Zingwangwa market and is expected to pass through Katoto ground for prayers before ending at Mbelwa District Council Offices where they will deliver their petitions.
Mzuzu main market chairperson, Alexander Sikwese, said they are protesting because the government did not respond to their concerns during a similar protest last month.
However, tension has started to rise in the city as some strange people carrying weapons have been identified blocking roads and stopping others from joining the protest and is causing fear among some people.
Police Officers are around the area to ensure there is enough security and all businesses activities are being undertaken.
