
Chakwera, Mutharika and 8 Others Collect Nomination Papers for Presidential Race

President Lazarus Chakwera and former President Arthur Peter Mutharika are among 10 presidential aspirants who have collected their nomination papers ahead of Malawi’s upcoming general elections.
Mutharika, representing the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo of the National Development Party (NDP) collected their papers yesterday, according to Sangwani Mwafulirwa, Director of Media and Public Relations at the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Other candidates who collected their nomination papers in the past week include Milward Tobias, Adil James Chilungo, Kondwani Nankhumwa, Akwame Bandawe, Joyce Banda, Atupele Austin Muluzi, and Reverend Hardwick Kaliya.
MEC has set 22 June as the deadline for the collection, payment, and submission of nomination papers for Local Government candidates, while the deadline for Parliamentary and Presidential candidates is 5 July.
