The United Democratic Front (UDF) has strongly condemned officials from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for allegedly making insulting remarks against former President Bakili Muluzi, describing the comments as “disrespectful and unacceptable.”
In a statement released last night, UDF National Publicity Secretary Dyson Jangiya expressed deep concern over the DPP’s conduct, stating that the party is demanding a public apology from the DPP.
“Dr. Bakili Muluzi is a retired Head of State and should not be dragged into political disputes in a demeaning manner,” the statement reads.
The condemnation comes amid rising tensions between the two political parties, following UDF president Atupele Muluzi’s remarks urging DPP presidential hopeful Peter Mutharika to retire from politics on grounds of old age.
The statement warns that failure to apologize will reflect poorly on the DPP’s moral standing and decency in Malawi’s political landscape.
The DPP is yet to issue a formal response to the UDF’s demands.
