Man Arrested for Allegedly Beating Cousin to Death in Ntchisi

Police in Ntchisi have arrested a 25-year-old man, Mapemphero Phiri, in connection with the death of his cousin, Jackson Chilema, aged 32.
The incident occurred on June 29, 2025, in Chipokosa Village under the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo.
According to Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer Salomy Zgambo, preliminary reports indicate that Phiri allegedly assaulted Chilema, leading to his death.
“The motive behind the attack is still unclear and investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” said Zgambo.
Chilema’s body was taken to Ntchisi District Hospital where a postmortem examination will determine the exact cause of death.
Police have since urged community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report grievances through proper legal channels.
Phiri is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to the murder.
