Police have arrested a 34-year-old man, Blessings Thupa, in connection with the murder of Khumbo Nkhoswe, a 30-year-old motorcycle taxi operator, and the theft of his T-Betta motorcycle.
According to Nkhata Bay police deputy spokesperson Devoter Mithi, the incident occurred on the night of June 16, 2025, when two individuals hired Nkhoswe for a ride from Luwinga township to the Chakupompha area. Nkhoswe never returned home that night.
His body was discovered two days later, on June 18, by concerned community members who alerted the police. He was found with multiple head injuries, and a postmortem conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital confirmed that he had died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Blessings Thupa, who is now in custody and is expected to appear in court soon to face murder and robbery charges.
Thupa hails from James Jere Village, while the deceased, Khumbo Nkhoswe, was from Kamchocho Village. Both villages are located in Traditional Authority Mtwalo in Mzimba District.
