The Blantyre Central Magistrate Court has fined a 22-year-old Zimbabwean national, Daryl Berry Edwards, for making a false declaration to fraudulently obtain a Malawian passport.
The court has also ordered that the passport be cancelled in the system.
According to case details, on June 27, 2025, Edwards visited the Immigration Headquarters to renew a passport he initially acquired in 2010 using false information. However, he was intercepted during the interview process, where it was discovered that he had also fraudulently obtained a Malawian National Identity Card.
Immigration Department Public Relations Officer Memory Gongwa confirmed that Edwards was arrested and later pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before the court.
The court fined him MK130,000 and ordered that he be deported to Zimbabwe.
