The candidate for the North-West constituency in Ntcheu, Everton Chimulirenji, has left the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and joined the United Transformation Movement (UTM).

Chimulirenji said he made the decision after receiving advice from his community. He explained that he was forced to leave the DPP, a party he has always loved, in order to have peace of mind.

He is expected to be officially welcomed into the UTM today and will represent the party as its candidate in the upcoming elections.

Chimulirenji had recently announced that he would contest the elections as an independent candidate after the DPP reversed its decision on who had won the party’s by-election, despite his initial victory.
