Head-On Collision Involving Two Lorries Near Mangochi Turn Off Leaves Multiple Casualties

Information reaching this publication indicates that several people who were on their way to a funeral are feared dead following a serious road accident that occurred about an hour ago at Chilanga, a few kilometers from the Mangochi Turn Off along the Peter Mutharika Road.
Sources say the crash involved a head-on collision between two lorries — one heading toward Mangochi and the other toward the Turn Off. The driver of the lorry carrying mourners is reportedly trapped in the vehicle, as traffic police and well-wishers work to rescue him.
Wongani Nyirenda, spokesperson for Machinga District Hospital, confirmed casualties are still arriving at the facility and requested more time to provide accurate figures.
Police in Liwonde are yet to comment on the incident.
