Four Arrested in Nkhata Bay Over Robbery, Theft and Witchcraft Allegations

Police in Nkhata Bay have arrested four individuals in connection with a series of criminal offenses, including robbery, theft, and accusations of witchcraft.
The arrests were made at Mpamba, Mkondezi, and Sanga trading centres, according to Nkhata Bay Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Devoter Mithi.
The suspects have been identified as Boy Phiri, 33, who has been charged with robbery, Chimwemwe Phiri, 43, facing charges of theft, George Kaira, 27, and Masautso Chione, 32, both charged in connection with accusing a person of witchcraft.
One of the victims, Miss Aliko Mphasi, 32, reported that her Redmi Note 9 smartphone was stolen on April 1, 2025. Police have since recovered a smartphone that has been positively identified by its rightful owner.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon as police continue investigations.
