Police in Lilongwe have arrested Callisto Khama Matumbi, a bodyguard to UTM president Dalitso Kabambe, for entering the Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) with a firearm during the presentation of nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
National Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed the arrest, saying Matumbi is currently in custody at one of the police stations in Lilongwe as authorities record his statement.
Kalaya further cautioned the public, emphasizing that it is illegal for civilians to carry firearms—whether licensed or not—within MEC premises at the BICC.
