Chimwala presents nomination papers to MEC with pomp

Independent Shadow Member of Parliament for South Lunzu Constituency Alex Achalume Chimwala has finally presentation his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) ahead of September 16 polls with a promise to revitalize Machanjiri Township.
The development comes barely a day after failing to do the exercise on Monday July 28, 2025 after unknown thieves went away with his nomination papers.
Speaking to the press after presenting the nomination papers to the constituency tally centre mounted at South Lunzu Primary School Chimwala could not hide his excitement.
“Am happy that finally i have submitted the nomination papers to MEC. Yesterday i failed to do so because some unknown people from my rival camp broke into my car and went away with my papers with an aim of frustrating me but they have failed.
“The journey has started and i will campaign massively,” said Chimwala while attracting ululations from his party supporters who came out in large numbers.

Turning to the development agendas for the constituency, Chimwala promised a massive development projects in the constituency once elected on September 16.
“Machinjiri needs main market, Machinjiri needs a youth centre and Machinjiri needs a Secondary School and once am elected all these project will be at the centre stage. Its time for Machinjiri people to experience meaningful development and i assure you on that,” said Chimwala.
After presenting the nomination papers, Chimwala conducted a whistle stop tour across the township causing a traffic-jam.
Chimwala is currently the front-runners in the constituency.
