A Chief’s Retainer from Moyo Chiefdom in Pemba, Zambia, and his wife have both reported each other to police after sustaining severe injuries during a violent physical altercation stemming from a marital dispute.
The couple, identified as Charles Muchindu (54) and Kasamba Chitombwe (45), allegedly fought around 02:00 hours on 6th August 2025 in Mukombo Village.
Police reports indicate the dispute began after Chitombwe allegedly exchanged the couple’s oxen for cows with other farmers within the chiefdom the previous day.
During the altercation, the wife sustained severe facial swelling and puffiness around the eyes, temporarily impairing her vision. Her right middle finger was also partially severed after Muchindu allegedly bit her.
In retaliation, Chitombwe is said to have struck her husband’s right toe with an axe, partially detaching it, and bitten his lower lip, causing a deep cut.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, confirmed the development and said that the couple received initial treatment at Pemba Mini Hospital before being referred to Monze Mission Hospital. They are currently admitted in stable condition.
Daka confirmed that both individuals will be charged with Causing Grievous Harm, contrary to Section 229 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
