Police in Nkhata Bay have arrested four men for being found in possession of 2,400 litres of petroleum products without a valid license.

The suspects were identified as Edson Lungu, 48, Samu Gavana, 32, Geoffrey Banda, 26, and Blessings Nyirongo, 33.

According to Deputy Public Relations Officer Devetor Mithi, the arrests occurred at Jetty during a routine police patrol.

The suspects were allegedly preparing to smuggle the liquid fuel to neighbouring countries Mozambique and Tanzania.

They failed to produce documentation proving legal ownership or authorization to transport the fuel.

All four will appear in court soon to answer charges related to illegal possession of petroleum products.
