Court Orders Arrest of Socialite ‘Jayne Jaydacris Chapomba’ Over Defamation Case

The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has directed Kanengo Police to arrest popular socialite Jayne Jaydacris Chapomba following allegations of defamation made against her on social media.

Kanengo Police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira confirmed the directive, saying it follows a complaint lodged last Sunday by Steven Chinyamula, who accused Chapomba of tarnishing his reputation online. Face of Malawi has seen the official court order authorizing the arrest, and Chinyamula himself confirmed filing the complaint.

However, in a dramatic turn, Chapomba has since issued a public apology to Chinyamula, retracting her earlier post in which she had accused him of theft.

“Lero ndipepese kwa Steve Chinyamula yemwe ndinamupanga post masiku athawa kuti ndi wakuba (theft by trick). I would like to sincerely apologize for the harm the post has costed you. Pepani, pepani, pepani Mr. Steve Chinyamula,” she wrote.

Chapomba went further to advise fellow socialites and the public to exercise caution when posting online, urging: “Let’s watch our mouths on social media, ladies and gentlemen.”

The case is still under review, and it remains to be seen how the court will proceed following the apology.
