National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya has refuted circulating reports claiming that police have closed the offices of the state-owned Salima Sugar Company.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Kalaya clarified that the police are only providing enhanced security at the company’s premises, consistent with standard procedure during periods of leadership transition.
“As is required by law, we have only heightened security at the company, just as we do with other institutions during this season of leadership change,” Kalaya said.
He further indicated that similar security deployments have been made at other key government institutions, including the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF), and major government offices in Lilongwe.
Kalaya emphasized that the presence of police officers at these offices is purely precautionary and is not affecting the day-to-day operations or the ability of staff to perform their duties.
“The presence of police at these offices is not disrupting the work of employees,” he assured.
The statement aims to dispel public speculation and confirm that operations at Salima Sugar and other mentioned institutions continue as normal under increased security measures.
