Chimwala, Gaffar want Court to nullify Blantyre City South Lunzu Parliamentary poll results over irregularities

Independent Shadow Member of Parliament Alex Achalume Chimwala and former Cabinet Minister Rashid Gaffer have moved the High Court to nullify the declaration of Blantyre City South Lunzu Constituency Parliamentary elections results and order for fresh parliamentary election.

The development comes barely weeks after some chiefs and villagers from the constituency took to the streets protesting the outcome of the polls where Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) declared Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Veronica Pempho Ndalama as winner.

According to the court petition seen by this publication, the two are accusing Ndalama of currently influencing voters to voter for her during the poling day.

In the court petition, the two through their lawyer Michael Goba Chipeta wants the court to nullify the outcome of the polls due to the said irregularities.

The two also want the court to disqualify Ndalama from taking part in the fresh Parliamentary polls for her misconduct.

Chipeta, lawyer for the two petitioners has confirmed of the development saying the saying the case is before Justice Muhome.

Ndalama is the first respondent in the case while Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is the second respondent.
The case is set for October 20, 2025.
