A 19-year-old bride in Mingachevir, Azerbaijan, has died by suicide after her husband’s family reportedly criticised her wedding dress for being “too revealing.”

According to Mail Online, Lyaman Mammadli was accused of looking “naked” on her wedding day because her shoulders were uncovered.

Her father, Murad Bayramov, said his daughter was heartbroken by the confrontation and later took her own life in the garden of their home.

“My daughter’s groom and his parents caused a fight in my home because of her wedding dress,” he said. “My daughter couldn’t bear it and took her own life.”

Bayramov denied media reports suggesting Lyaman had been forced into marriage with her 33-year-old husband, Elnur Mamedli, saying the conflict began only after the celebration.

“After the wedding, Elnur came to our home with his parents and caused a big argument,” he recalled. “They said: ‘What a disgrace. How could you let your daughter wear such a shameful, revealing wedding dress?’”

He added that the dispute continued the next day as the groom’s parents accused Lyaman of “disgracing their son and family.”

“My daughter couldn’t endure it. In her distress and emotional turmoil, she ended her life,” Bayramov said, adding that he refused to let the groom and his parents stay at the funeral.

Police have launched an investigation.
