Blantyre Police have arrested two men for allegedly impersonating a traditional healer and stealing from two women in Mbayani Township.

The suspects have been identified as James Banda, 44, from Namangwira Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba, and Feleso Falemenga, 26, from Machinjiri in Blantyre.

According to Blantyre Police Deputy Spokesperson Doris Mwitha, the two suspects approached the victims, Memory James and Funny John, at Petroda Filling Station in Mbayani as the women were on their way to a prayer meeting.

Mwitha said the suspects claimed to possess traditional powers that could help solve the women’s problems and convinced them to hand over their mobile phones and K10,000 in cash.

The two men then attempted to flee with the valuables.

However, police officers quickly tracked and apprehended the suspects.

They are currently in custody and will soon appear in court to answer charges of theft and impersonation.
