Man Arrested Over K2.7m Agricultural Goods Theft in Kasungu

Kasungu police have arrested Jailosi Phiri, 23, on suspicion of stealing various goods after allegedly breaking into a storage room through the roof on the night of December 2 in Kapalankhwani, Kasungu Municipality.

According to Kasungu Police spokesperson Joseph Kachikho, the property owner keeps agricultural produce in a storage room adjacent to his house.

That night, suspects reportedly broke through the roof and stole three 50kg bags of beans, five 50kg bags of maize, two 10kg packets of fertiliser, four 50kg bags of fertiliser, two car batteries, and a 20kg bag of soya. The stolen goods are valued at K2.7 million.

Police tracked the suspect and arrested Phiri at Kaning’a at Fourways, where they also recovered the stolen items. The owner later identified the goods as his.

Jailosi Phiri comes from Kasalika Village, Traditional Authority Kaomba, in Kasungu District.
