Unknown assailants have killed a police officer in Mchinji District. The deceased has been identified as Bright Kampeza, aged 40, who was stationed at Namizana Police Unit near the Malawi–Mozambique border.
Central Region Police spokesperson, Foster Benjamin, has confirmed the incident to Mzati, saying Kampeza was attacked on Tuesday night this week at Nsolo Village, under Traditional Authority Mabvwere in Mchinji.
Benjamin explained that the late officer was coming from Nkhompola Police Unit, where he had gone to drop off colleagues who were on night duty, when he was ambushed by the attackers. The assailants reportedly assaulted him on the head using blue gum sticks before stealing his Sun LG motorcycle bearing registration number MP 1228 and an Itel mobile phone.
Kampeza’s body was discovered the following day in a tobacco field, where he had lost a lot of blood.
The late Bright Kampeza hailed from Manyenje Village, under Traditional Authority Masasa in Ntcheu District. Police investigations into the murder are currently underway.
