Police have arrested former Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC), Colleen Zamba, on fresh allegations of abuse of office.
Zamba’s lawyer, George Kadzipatike, has confirmed the arrest, saying she was apprehended at the National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe, where she voluntarily presented herself to investigators.
Kadzipatike explained that the new abuse of office charge is different from the one she faced in December 2025, when she was arrested over allegations of irregularly recruiting about 300 people into the public service without following laid-down procedures.
Zamba’s arrest comes amid continued police action involving several senior figures linked to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). In the past two days, police have also arrested former cabinet minister Sosten Gwengwe and Sam Kawale, both of whom similarly handed themselves over to authorities after learning they were wanted.
So far, police have not disclosed specific reasons for the latest arrests involving some of the individuals.
Meanwhile, speculation is growing that more arrests could follow, as reports suggest that several other names may be on a list of individuals being sought by law enforcement.
Police are yet to issue an official comprehensive statement on the unfolding developments
