Mexico has been thrown into turmoil following the reported death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The Mexican Army said he and several close associates were killed during a military operation on Sunday, February 22, in Jalisco state.
The operation triggered swift retaliation, with armed groups setting vehicles on fire, blocking highways and clashing with security forces in several states.
Major cities including Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta were severely affected, forcing residents to remain indoors as violence spread.
Flights were temporarily suspended at nearby airports as authorities moved to contain the unrest and restore order.
