Malawi Police have arrested 49-year-old Nelson Chipokosa as the prime suspect in the K392 million robbery that occurred on February 9 near Autotech Building in Lilongwe.

Police Deputy Publicist Alfred Chinthere said the victim was lured into a fake foreign-currency deal, after which a team of attackers robbed him and fled in an unregistered vehicle before distributing the money locally.

Chinthere added that Chipokosa is also wanted in connection with a series of violent panga attacks, including one targeting activist Sylvester Namiwa of the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI).

Police say operations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover the stolen cash.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the robbery or the suspects to come forward.
