In a memorandum dated 23 February 2026, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Kondwani Kelvin Mkandawire, said his office has received complaints from concerned students and guardians regarding the conduct.
The memo reminds students that Section 14 of the Student Rules and Regulations strictly prohibits engaging in sexual activity in hostel rooms. It warns that any students found violating the regulation will face serious disciplinary action.
The Dean emphasized that hostel rooms are shared spaces and that any behaviour that infringes on the rights and dignity of fellow occupants is unacceptable.
Students have been encouraged to report such incidents to the Dean’s office or to wardens so that appropriate action can be taken. The MSRC Social Welfare Directorate and floor representatives have also been called upon to support efforts to uphold discipline in the hostels.
The memo concludes by reminding students that the university exists primarily as a place for learning and personal development and should not be turned into an environment that promotes immoral conduct or other social vices.
Copies of the memorandum were circulated to university management, wardens, the University Chaplain, and student leadership.
