Man Arrested in Balaka for Alleged Shop Burglary

Police in Balaka have arrested a 22-year-old man, Thomas Kadewere, for allegedly breaking into a building and committing a felony.

Balaka Police Public Relations Officer Gladson M’bumpha said the suspect is believed to have committed the offence between the night of March 14 and March 15, 2026, at Phalula Trading Centre.

According to M’bumpha, the suspect broke into a shop owned by Sample Maduki and stole 42 tablets of Sona soap, four bricks of cigarettes, 55 bottles of Vaseline, two cartons of glycerin, assorted biscuits, one carton of Azam soap, a pail of mandasi, and cash amounting to K550,000.

The suspect, Thomas Kadewere, who comes from Tsamba Village under Traditional Authority Chanthunya in Balaka District, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of breaking into a building and committing a felony.
