Police in Chiradzulu have arrested a 48-year-old man, Ali Chilomo, for allegedly cultivating Indian hemp without a permit.
According to police spokesperson Hubert Mwangoka, the arrest followed a community tip-off that led officers to conduct a raid at the suspect’s compound in Linyama Village under Traditional Authority Ntchema on March 23, 2026.
During the operation, police discovered and uprooted over 90 cannabis plants after the suspect failed to produce legal authorization.
Chilomo is currently in custody, while the seized plants are expected to be sent to Bvumbwe Research Station for further analysis.
