R4pe and Robbery Suspect Arrested in Lilongwe

Police in Lilongwe have arrested a 41-year-old man accused of raping and robbing a 24-year-old woman in the New Gulliver area on Tuesday night.

The suspect, Peter Sabanya, popularly known as “Vintula,” was apprehended on Wednesday afternoon in the Malangalanga area while allegedly attempting to sell stolen items.

According to Hastings Chigalu, spokesperson for Lilongwe Police Station, officers recovered several items believed to have been stolen, including a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, an iPhone XR, and Redmi phones.

Police also found Sabanya in possession of a knife and three spanners, which are suspected to have been used as breaking implements.

He has since been formally charged with rape and robbery and is expected to appear in court soon to answer to the charges.

Sabanya hails from Stella Village under Traditional Authority Masanjala in Chiradzulu District.
