Donald Trump has deleted a controversial image from his social media page following criticism from Christians who accused him of portraying himself in a Christ-like manner.
The computer-generated image showed Trump placing his hands on the forehead of a man appearing ill, as if performing a healing act. The scene also included a nurse, people seemingly showing reverence, as well as symbolic elements such as angels, a dove, soldiers, and military aircraft.
The image sparked widespread backlash from Christians around the world, who criticized Trump for appearing to compare himself to Jesus Christ, whom they believe to be the only Son of God.
Responding to the criticism, Trump said the image was meant to depict him as a doctor in a hospital setting, not as a religious figure.
However, by last night, he had removed the image from his page.
The development comes amid reported tensions between Trump and Pope Leo XIV, the leader of the Catholic Church. Trump has recently criticized the Pope for condemning a war he allegedly initiated involving Iran.
Trump has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the Pope’s stance, stating that he was unhappy with the criticism directed at the U.S. leadership and adding that Pope Leo XIV would not feature on his list of preferred candidates for the papacy.
