Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) Chief Executive Officer Bob Chimkango has warned tenants in the corporation’s houses that those failing to pay rent should vacate the properties.

Chimkango expressed concern over growing rent arrears, saying a significant number of tenants have gone for extended periods without meeting their rental obligations.

In a post on his Facebook page, Chimkango said the corporation will no longer tolerate non-payment.

“I think people at Housing may have been tolerating you, but not me. Others also need those houses. If you have rent arrears, you should move out… do not make it difficult for yourselves,” he said.

MHC houses are in high demand across the country, with long waiting lists, making timely rent payment critical for fair allocation.
