A 36-year-old woman, identified as Agness Jordan, has died in Ntcheu District after allegedly consuming pesticides following a domestic dispute.
According to Deputy Police Spokesperson Beatrice Mlauzi, the incident occurred in Chalera Village, under Chakhumbira area. Reports indicate that the deceased had been involved in ongoing arguments with her husband over family matters, including allegations that he had a mistress.
On the day of the incident, Jordan reportedly informed relatives that she was heading to Kandeu Market to purchase pesticides for use in their tomato garden. When she failed to return after an extended period, concerned family members began searching for her.
Her body was later discovered near the family’s garden.
Authorities say that a post-mortem examination conducted at Kandeu Sub-District Hospital confirmed that her death was caused by pesticide poisoning.
Police have since urged communities to seek peaceful resolutions to domestic conflicts and to reach out for support during times of emotional distress.
