Kanengo police recover 63 smartphones worth 54.5 million belonging to Yellow Company

Kanengo Police Station has recovered 63 smartphones belonging to Yellow Company, following the arrest of a 36-year-old businessman, Jafali Jeke.
The suspect, a resident of Chinsapo 2, was arrested on May 5, 2026. A subsequent search of his house led detectives to recover assorted items, including 82 smartphones, two tablets, computer monitors, and other electronic equipment.
Investigations have since established that out of the 82 smartphones recovered, 63 have been positively identified as belonging to Yellow Company. The identification was carried out through the company’s Information and Technology Manager, Burhan Kenti.
According to Yellow Company, the 63 phones were sold on loan terms to 63 individual customers who had made partial payments before the phones were reported stolen. All 63 customers are residents of Lilongwe City.
The total value of the 63 recovered phones belonging to Yellow Company is MK54,580,500.00.
All recovered phones will be returned to their rightful owners on Friday, May 22, 2026. Affected individuals will be contacted directly to make arrangements for the collection of their phones.
Meanwhile, the suspect, Jafali Jeke, is expected to appear in court soon to face additional charges, including suspected fraud, upon completion of investigations.
