Police at Lingadzi Police Station have arrested a couple for allegedly failing to provide care for their nine-month-old child and giving false information to law enforcement officers.
According to police spokesperson Maria Kumwenda, the couple has been identified as Subston Muhala, 44, and Liness Maulawo, 38, who have reportedly been in a relationship for over ten years and share the child.
Kumwenda said the incident began on 11th of the month when Maulawo asked Muhala to send K50,000 for the child’s basic needs, but he reportedly refused. Maulawo then went to Muhala’s workplace to collect the child.
The situation escalated when the couple took the child to Lingadzi Police Station, where Muhala allegedly gave false information claiming Maulawo had picked up the child at Area 18 Interchange and that police had taken the child to a welfare office.
Investigations later established that the account was untrue.
Police say the couple has since been arrested after admitting to providing false information, and they are expected to appear in court as investigations continue.
