One Dies, Several Hurt After Vehicle Overturns in Chikwawa

A 35-year-old man, identified as Chatanza Geoffrey from Livunzu Village under Traditional Authority Makhwira in Chikwawa District, has died following a road accident that occurred on Sunday at Nyaika Trading Centre.
According to Chikwawa Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Chancy Mfune Zare, the accident involved a vehicle that was travelling from Ngabu to Sorjin while carrying bags of beans and several passengers.
Mfune Zare said the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed upon reaching Nyaika Trading Centre, causing the vehicle to overturn.
“As a result of the accident, one passenger, identified as Chatanza Geoffrey, sustained severe injuries and died,” said Mfune Zare.
Six other passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated as outpatients at Ngabu Rural Hospital.
Police have since advised motorists to observe speed limits and avoid reckless driving in order to prevent road accidents.
