One Missing After Zomba DHO Boat Capsizes on Lake Chirwa

Nine people have survived while one person remains missing following a boating accident involving a Zomba District Health Office boat that capsized on Lake Chirwa on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the boat was transporting medicines to the Chisoni area when the accident occurred.

Boat captain Gift Makochera said the incident happened after the vessel encountered heavy rain and strong winds while travelling on the lake, causing it to overturn.

Makochera further said rescue and first aid teams arrived at the scene around 2pm, and efforts to locate the missing person are still underway.

Some of the survivors received medical treatment and have since been discharged and returned to their homes.

Authorities are continuing search operations as communities around the lake await updates on the missing individual.
