Police in Lilongwe say they have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of a man with albinism, Laston Chipiliro, who went missing on March 9 this year.
Deputy national police spokesperson Alfred Chinthere said the suspect, Mussa Masano, aged 46, was arrested on May 24, 2026 while allegedly attempting to sell the deceased’s arm bones.
Chinthere said police are still searching for two uncles of the deceased, identified as Sankhani and Wyson, who are suspected to have assisted in the crime before allegedly stealing the victim’s bicycle and phone.
According to police, Masano later led investigators to the grave where Chipiliro’s body had been buried. The body was later exhumed following a court order.
Police say the remains, which were found without arms and legs, are currently being kept at Kamuzu Central Hospital awaiting burial.
The late Chipiliro came from Chilembwe Village, while Masano is from Mumba Village under Traditional Authority Masambankhunda in Lilongwe.
